Electrophysiology
The Electrophysiology (EMG / NCV testing) program uses the latest technology and techniques to evaluate and diagnose the function of skeletal muscle and the nerves that innervate them.
EMG – Electromyography (EMG) is the study of the electrical activity of skeletal muscle. At St. Francis, EMG studies are performed by physical therapists to assess the health of muscles and the nerve cells that control them. EMG studies can reveal nerve dysfunction, muscle dysfunction, or problems with nerve-to-muscle signal transmission that provides important diagnostic information for patients.
NMS – Neurophysiological Monitoring Services (NMS) provides intraoperative monitoring for several types of surgical procedures, including spinal procedures, neurosurgery, and vascular and peripheral nerve surgeries. Intraoperative monitoring is widely considered the standard of care. All of our staff are board-certified in neurophysiological monitoring, and a board-certified physician provides online supervision for our staff during monitoring.
