LifePoint Health Transitions Ownership Stake in St. Francis-Emory Healthcare Joint Venture to ScionHealth
December 27, 2021
Columbus, Ga. – (December 27, 2021) – LifePoint Health and ScionHealth have announced that LifePoint’s ownership stake in St. Francis-Emory Healthcare, a joint venture with Emory Healthcare, has been transitioned to ScionHealth. As part of this transition, St. Francis-Emory Healthcare will remain a joint venture partner with Emory Healthcare and become a flagship hospital for the new ScionHealth system.
ScionHealth launched Dec. 23, 2021, in connection with LifePoint’s transaction with Kindred Healthcare. The company consists of 79 hospital campuses in 25 states, including Kindred’s 61 long-term acute care hospitals and 18 of LifePoint’s hospital campuses and associated sites of care, including the joint venture at St. Francis-Emory Healthcare.
“All of us at St. Francis-Emory Healthcare are delighted to be part of the ScionHealth team,” said Melody Trimble, chief executive officer of St. Francis-Emory Healthcare. “It is exciting to be part of the founding of a new company. Our joint venture with Emory Healthcare, our commitment to quality and patient safety, and access to resources will remain the same. We also are eager to explore opportunities to grow and collaborate with our new sister hospitals while expanding the ways we currently serve this community.”
ScionHealth provides high-quality, patient-centered acute and post-acute hospital solutions. Based in Louisville, Ky., the health system is focused on driving innovation, serving its communities, and investing in people and technology to deliver compassionate patient care and excellent health outcomes. The company has approximately 22,000 dedicated and compassionate employees working across community hospital campuses, long-term acute care hospitals, outpatient centers, sub-acute units, and behavioral health locations.
“Emory Healthcare is dedicated to improving health and health outcomes in the communities we serve,” said Dr. Jonathan S. Lewin, CEO and Chairman of the Board, Emory Healthcare. “We are committed to providing the highest quality care to individuals in Columbus and throughout the region to include specialized treatments and expertise rooted in Emory University’s groundbreaking research.”
This transition will not impact St. Francis-Emory Healthcare’s leadership team, and there will be little change in the hospital’s day-to-day operations. Patients will continue to receive great care from the providers they know and trust, and there will be no changes in any services – or in how patients access care.
As part of ScionHealth, St. Francis-Emory Healthcare will continue to invest in its facility and community, to include the resources and support needed to accelerate its ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare delivery and expand the services available in the Columbus area and beyond.
“St. Francis-Emory Healthcare is an exceptional hospital, and the expertise, best practices and perspective that it has honed the last seven decades will benefit all of ScionHealth’s hospitals,” said Rob Jay, CEO of ScionHealth. “I am excited to welcome St. Francis-Emory Healthcare to the ScionHealth team. I believe we have great opportunities to build on the hospital’s success and achievements in this region to not only continue to improve the health of people in Columbus, but to drive better care and outcomes across the nation.”
