The DAISY Award recognizes the extraordinary compassion and care nurses provide every day. Congratulations to MSICU’s Mandy Vega, RN, St. Francis-Emory Healthcare’s latest recipient of this honor. Here is what Mandy's nominator wrote about her:
“My 65-year-old sister came to St. Francis with complications of end stage liver failure. She was diagnosed with sepsis, pneumonia, and a UTI. Also, her oxygen level was very low. It was decided to intubate her to help her lungs heal. Mandy began taking care of my sister about six days after admission … when she came in, it was evident that she not only had a deep care and heartfelt concern my sister's overall wellbeing, but for us as well.
“Mandy took the time to compassionately explain my sister's current condition, what had been done with her care and what would be happening going forward. Mandy was very personable, friendly and treated my sister as if she was her own family member. Our family felt as though Mandy became an extended part of our family in those three short days. My only regret when leaving was knowing we would probably never see her again.”
